How to Plan a Summer Roadtrip!

The classic “road trip” was once seen as an American institution, but these days people all over the world are unable to resist the lure of piling into the car and setting off into the sunset. But before you get behind the wheel, be sure to make some basic preparations ahead of your trip.

Set your Itinerary

The first thing you should do is plan where you’re going, how you’re going to get there, and how much time it will take. Instead of plotting the fastest route from A to B, plot a route that takes you past scenic county roads and by ways that offer some of the best sights and hidden attractions.

Book your lodgings

If you know where you’re headed you’ll be able to book motel rooms in advance, and good job too because road trips can be very tiring, which means you’ll be exhausted and anxious to hit the sack at the end of the day. Hotels and motels fill up fast during vacation season, and the last thing you want is to be stuck sleeping in the car after driving it all day!

Get your car serviced

You don’t want to spend the majority of your road trip stuck by the side of the road waiting for a mechanic, so be sure to get your car serviced ahead of your journey. By having your car checked up you’ll also help to ensure your own safety whilst out on the road.

For those planning long journeys, it might be a good idea to equip your vehicle with all-season tyres instead of summer tyres, because these have the advantage of being more suitable in rough terrain (you never know where you’ll end up!). Also be sure to check out things like the battery and brakes, fluid levels, headlights and brake lights.

Once you know your vehicle is in good condition, you’re ready to hit the road. Enjoy your trip!
